Krysia Osostowicz - Violin
Krysia Osostowicz is a founder member of Endymion and is one of the leading violinists of her generation, well known both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Born in London of Polish descent, she studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and at Cambridge University before completing her violin studies in Salzburg with Sandor Vegh. She has given concerto and recital performances throughout Europe and made a series of award-winning recordings. Most recently she has recorded Rubbra’s violin concerto with the Ulster Orchestra for Naxos.Krysia’s reputation as a chamber musician was first established with the pioneering piano quartet Domus, which toured with its own portable concert hall – a large white geodesic dome – and went on to win a worldwide audience and two Gramophone Awards in ten years.
Duo recordings include the sonatas of Faure, Brahms and Bartok for Hyperion. Krysia’s recording of Rubbra’s sonatas with Michael Dussek (Dutton Epoch) was described in BBC Music Magazine as “ a performance of flawless integrity and insight.”
Krysia leads the Dante Quartet, which she founded in 1995 and which was recently honoured to receive the 2006 Royal Philharmonic Society Award for best Chamber Ensemble. The quartet appears at festivals such as City of London, Bath, Cheltenham, Three Choirs, Aldeburgh and London Spitalfields, and also runs its own highly popular Dante Summer Music Festival, which takes place at the end of June in Cornwall.
Krysia teaches at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
